Industrial Air Emission Testing

Industrial Air Discharge & Stack Testing Capabilities - NZ

Auckland based, JCL Air and Environment are specialists in industrial air emission stack testing having worked for many of the major industries in NZ,  some for more than 20 years.   We work primarily in the areas of:

air discharge testing from  industrial stacks, vents and point sources;
environmental impact assessment of air emissions; and
the impact of persistent toxic organic compounds (dioxins, PCP and PCB's).

JCL Air and Environment has strong contacts with other Companies that carry out occupational health testing, air resource consent applications and air dispersion modelling.  If your needs lie outside our area of expertise we are happy to put you in touch with other consultants that we have confidence in.

Experience
We  are specialists in air discharge testing from stacks and vents for particulate matter, reduced sulphur compounds, sulphur dioxide, metals (including mercury), HF, formaldehyde, HCl, VOC's, odour, dioxin and PAH's.   We have conducted air emission testing for many different manufacturing and chemical processes in New Zealand.  These include:

Pulp and Paper Manufacturing and By-Products Processing – reduced sulphur compounds including hydrogen sulphide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulphide and dimethyl disulphide, sulphur dioxide, particulate matter, HCl, hydrogen peroxide, methanol, odour and volatile wood compounds such as alpha and beta pinene

Timber Processing and Wood Fired Boilers – dust and particulate matter, PCDDs and PCDFs, PAHs, formaldehyde and related compounds, volatile wood compounds

Brick Manufacturing – HF, sulphuric acid mist and sulphur dioxide, particulate matter

Chemical Manufacture and Formulation - Volatile organic compounds, reduced sulphur compounds, oxides of sulphur and particulate matter

Coal Fired Power Generation – sulphur dioxide and sulphuric acid mist, trace metals including mercury, HF, HCl and chlorine, PCDDs and PCDFs, oxides of nitrogen including nitrous oxide, particulate matter

Geothermal Power Generation - mercury

Printing and Laminating Plants – solvent species such as benzene, xylene, toluene, ethanol and isopropanol, formaldehyde and related species, odour.

Solvent Recovery – solvent species such as perchloroethylene, benzene, toluene and xylene.

Waste Oil Recovery – sulphur dioxide, trace metals, PAH's, HCl, particulate matter, benzene, toluene and xylene.

Pesticide Destruction – organophosphate and organonitrogen pesticides

Food Manufacturing – particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and sulphuric acid mist, odour

Sand Blasting – particulate matter

Foundries – particulate matter and triethylamine

Oil and Gas Recovery (Flare Pits) - particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and sulphuric acid mist, PCDDs, PCDFs and PAHs

Sewage Treatment Plants – Total reduced sulphur

Aluminium Extrusion – particulate matter and sodium hydroxide mist

Isokinetic Stack Testing
Where an industrial air emission involves particles or droplets, stack testing methods require isokinetic sampling.  This technique ensures that an even distribution of particles is collected and there is no discrimination for small or large particles.  During isokinetic sampling the stack tester adjusts the flow through the sampling train such that the velocity at the train’s nozzle tip matches the velocity of the stack gas at the measuring point.  JCL Air and Environment uses specialist American sourced sampling equipment which conforms to USEPA and other reference method requirements.
